It appears that Vernell Price, the Juco DT out of San Diego that we blogged about earlier, may be heading to South Dakota. He had offers from USD, UND and NDSU along with interest from Bethune Cookman but what we are hearing is he is leaning to the Yotes. Apparently the promise and guarantee of a starting spot were too much for him to resist. Nothing is official yet but we will keep our ear to the ground.
There are roughly 50 players who stayed in Grand Forks for summer workouts, which is a pretty good number considering the Sioux can only have 90 at the start of Fall camp – including incoming freshman. Of those incoming freshman, RJ McGill has already arrived on campus and is working out with the team. The coaches are expecting a couple more to come in July. Running back Breon Butler, quarterback Chris Comes and linebacker Joey Walker, all from the state of California, are expected to arrive on campus shortly after the 4th of July. Seeing a theme here with all of these early arrivals? Perhaps all 4 of these guys have the potential to play as true freshman this fall? Just a guess on our part.
