Just some random pieces of information we have come across in the last week or so…
– Kyle Myers will be joining the UND coaching staff this fall as a volunteer assistant and will be helping Co-Defensive Coordinator John Kelling this fall with cornerbacks. The New Jersey native just finished his playing career at UMC in 2009.
– The UND coaching staff has verbally offered 2011 DL recruit Shaq Jenkins, who is being recruited by very good company. UND’s inside edge is his friendship with incoming LB recruit Ben Peters, who played with Shaq at Hamilton high school in Chandler, AZ. It would be nice to be able to start a recruiting pipeline to the 2009 state champion powerhouse. He’s been recruited by Arizona and Arizona State and has been offered by Montana, Northern Arizona and NDSU. Probably a longshot, but worth noting. It would be nice if we were still talking about him come December and January.
– This week is the ND Shrine Game. OL recruit Devin Barton from Carrington and RB recruit Jake Miller from Bismarck both are on campus practicing for the west squad. Alex Hickel, LB recruit from Grand Forks Red River High School, will play for the east. Tom Miller from the Grand Forks Herald wrote a nice piece about Barton the other day.
– Speaking of Jake Miller, he will be competing with Bismarck High School in the 400 meters at the Nike National Track Meet.
– Ekenna Anya-Gafu, the DL recruit from Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento, CA, recently participated in the 2010 California Optimist all-star game. He served as a defensive team captain and recorded 2 sacks in the game.
– Delano Saporu has decided to leave the team after battling injuries his entire career. The Blaine, MN product arrived in the fall of 2008 and didnt redshirt that season. He played quite a bit on defense and special teams. Quite a disappointing end to his career at UND for Saporu. We wish Delano the best with his future endeavors.
– We now have a twitter account that will be much more active during the game weeks and recruiting season. Feel free to follow us to get your "fix" of Sioux Football throughout the year. It’s also linked at the top of this blog page.
