It’s that time of the summer when college football camps across the country will get cranked up.  UND has their 2010 report date on August 4th.  All incoming freshman will check-in that day and get orientated to campus, the facilities and their dorm rooms.  The following day physicals will be taken and all equipment will be checked out.  Later that day, Sioux Football Strength and Conditioning Coach Nate Baukol will conduct the annual "Sioux Run" for all freshman and any other upper classmen who did not pass the test earlier in the summer.  I have been told that the "Sioux Run" is a nasty endurance and conditioning test and has been known to take down some pretty good athletes, literally.

The first offical practice won’t be until August 6th and will be helmets-only.  They will progressively work their way up to full pads for practice as required by the NCAA.  August 10th will be the first day of full-pads practice.  The team will alternate practicing once a day, then twice a day throughout fall camp.

The first scrimmage is scheduled for Saturday, August 14th.  That will be a good one to be at.

We are very excited to see how the class of 2nd year freshman progress this fall.  Lots of athletic talent in that group and this fall we will get to see them run around on the field for the first time.  Also, we will be interested to see which incoming freshman get their redshirts pulled.  There are some positions of need with WR being the most glaring.  Some positions are just too demanding both mentally and physically to waste a year of eligibility on, such as LB and DL.  Most of the time the freshman aren’t ready for the jump anyway.
