At 2-4 heading into Saturday’s game at Cal-Poly, the UND football team finds itself at a crossroads that could affect many things in the near future, most notably recruiting.  In looking at the schedule during the preseason, we thought UND would be 3-3 at this time and if they played well, and had a chance to be 4-2.  Needless to say, it hasn’t worked out that way.

In UND’s final 5 games, there is really only one game left on the schedule that makes you think they should definitely win it – Lamar – and we don’t know a whole lot about them.  After that, you have Cal-Poly, SDSU and Montana all on the road.  UC-Davis is the last home game and will be a tough test as well to say the least.  So, if you beat Lamar and UC-Davis at home, that puts UND at 4-7.  Maybe they win a road game along the way and end up at 5-6?  They have to win two of those tough road games to get to a winning record at 6-5.  SDSU seems to be getting things together based on their waxing of Southern Illinois last weekend on the road.

What’s realistic?  At this point, if UND ends up with a winning record it would mean they went 4-1 to close the season on a very brutal schedule.  In our eyes, 6-5 would be a huge accomplishment, given what they find themselves in right now.

Would 5-6 be considered a positive finish to the year, given their current record and the remaining schedule?  Coming in to the year 5-6 would not have been acceptable but now it would mean the Sioux had some nice wins to end the season.  We will see what this team is made of over the next 5 weeks.
