Following the rigors of recruiting season up to signing day and after a brief winter hiatus, we are back. We will try to begin our regular blogging now that we are closing in on spring ball practices. We’d like to thank all of you for the interaction during recruiting season. Our hits and comments were at an all time high and it is much appreciated.
- Coach Mussman recently stated at Fargo Sioux Boosters that he is going to take over the OL duties for the upcoming season. Mussman (played OL at Iowa State) came to UND in 1999 as the OL coach and his linemen always excelled under his tutelage and we should see an immediate impact at those positions. Interesting scenario to say the least.
- Danny Freund was recently hired as the RB coach. Freund is a former 2 year starter at QB for the Sioux. He was regarded as an extremely smart player, a “coach on the field”, so to speak. We like the fact that he will be around to help with the young QB’s also. It never hurts to have somebody young around to relate better.
- UND held its Junior Day for 2012 recruiting on February 26th. Over 25 recruits and their families came to Grand Forks for campus visits to check out facilities and academics. These ‘blue-chip’ recruits usually are on the coach’s radars pretty early.  Some have already attended UND’s football camp and a good majority of them receiving early offers if they haven’t already from UND and other Division 1 schools. Our guess is that 10-20 offers have been extended at this point by UND.
- Spring Ball is slated to begin at the end of March, probably the 28th -30th. That would give them 3 weeks to get their 15 practices in. We will have a full Spring Ball preview coming in the next week or so. It will include our projections on who will be starting at each position. As spring progresses we will try to get a feel for who did what and relay that along.
- The Spring Game will be held on April 16th at 1pm. UND has decided to hold a Sioux Tailgate Cook-off Challenge before the game to help spice up the tailgating before the Spring Game. We applaud their effort and are looking forward to the pregame festivities!
- Being we haven’t addressed the issue of the 2011 schedule yet we figured we would do it now. As most of you were, we also were disappointed in the number of lower level teams on the schedule. We know it isn’t easy to schedule during a transition but we would have hoped for another quality FCS team at home. Didn’t happen. We will be at the games regardless and maybe an extra beverage is in order for those games, who knows. It is what it is and since Sioux Football is what we do and what we attend in the fall, we will be there. We hope you will be there too.
- The good thing is the 2012 schedule will be released soon with a full 8 game Big Sky slate, along with Central Arkansas (home) and San Diego State (away). Now that will be an attractive schedule that fans can look forward to.
