Now that the school year is officially over we are going to look ahead to what will be happening over the next three months. Fall Camp usually begins the first week of August meaning we are only about 12 short weeks away.
We continue to hear the Sioux are looking to bring in some help at the safety position. There still could be FBS kids looking to transfer now that school is ending and spring ball practices have concluded around the country . The most obvious choice would be a JUCO transfer but we are not ruling anything out just yet. The longer it goes on the more likely it would be a JUCO, in our opinion.
There should be at least one defensive staff hiring coming up shortly. By our count there is only three defensive staff members currently and that is one short. Plus, there should be a graduate assistant type position on the defensive side also.
With San Jose State heading to the Mountain West Conference in 2013, the Sioux will be taking on three MWC teams in the next four years. San Diego State in 2012, San Jose State in 2014, and Wyoming in 2015. Definitely a Big Sky feel to that scheduling.
We are also hearing that the new jerseys could be black for all home games. That means UND would no longer wear green at home. The road jerseys would still be white. We will have to wait and see what color pants go with the jerseys and also if the helmets stay green.
The new turf installation should begin sometime in the next few weeks now that spring graduation ceremonies for UND are over. This is a much needed upgrade and will be appreciated by all players who come to the Alerus Center. Here is the new design (feel free to comment-we are interested in everyones thoughts):
