#16 Torrey Hunt
CB
True Freshman – Madison, AL
6’1″-185
Anyone who watched UND football last year knows their kryptonite. Run-first teams were usually held in-check by the UND defense. The issues happened when UND faced spread, 4-5 WR, hurry-up offenses like Montana and Idaho State.
In those two games combined, UND gave up 79 points, 755 passing yards, and 10 TD’s.
Heading into 2016, the UND secondary continues to have slight depth issues and it could be a concern again this season if any injuries pop up.
UND returns starters Tyus Carter (true sophomore) and Deion Harris (junior). Both of those two got major reps last year at cornerback and should be much more comfortable this year. But what if they get hurt?
Backing them up are the untested duo of junior Chris Carter and sophomore Garrett Bollant. Which leads us to Torrey Hunt.
Hunt originally enrolled at Naval Prep Academy in Fall of 2015 after his high school days at Alabama powerhouse Bob Jones High School.
After playing the fall season at Naval Prep, Hunt was recruited by UND over the winter and signed with the Hawks as a mid-year transfer. Which means he worked out with the team all winter and participated in spring ball. Both of those items are huge for his or any players development.
Hunt had a very good 2016 spring ball session. He has good size at 6’1″ and has the necessary speed and hips to play the position.
Reps will be key to his development like any young player. Being he played mostly offense in high school, it will take him a bit longer than normal to gain the comfort level and see all the route combinations, etc.
UND needs a player like Hunt to step up and give them solid cornerback play to make the offenses think twice about simply chucking it up when pressured. Far too many times they were rewarded when throwing a 50/50 ball downfield.
