Can you sense that we feel the offensive line is a rather important part of UND football program, perhaps the most important?

Earlier, we wrote about LG Dan Bell being our #3 Need To Succeed in 2016 UND player.  We now conclude the series with our #1 player, RG Demon Taylor.

Taylor has big shoes to fill at the right guard position.  Last season, senior Sean Meehan moved back down to his natural spot at right guard after beginning the season at right tackle.  He proceeded to put in a dominant effort over the rest of the season and earn All-American honors in the process.

Demon Taylor has the size, and uncanny athletic ability for that size, to be a dominant force on the inside of UND’s offensive line.  At 6’4″-310 he is a massive human being with a strong lower base to drive defenders in the run game.

We have witnessed Taylor pulling out on counters and getting up on safeties, driving them out of the alley with ease.

We have also witnessed Taylor’s aggressive side.

He got in vs. Northern Colorado last season when the game started to get out of hand.  As they liked to do that day, a UNC defensive lineman popped Taylor’s helmet off by shoving the face mask up.  Taylor didn’t appreciate it and drove block the guy 10 yards down field, well after the whistle, picking up a 15 yard unsportmanlike conduct penalty.  That showed us right there he has the nasty side to his game, as well.

The tools are there to be great.  Now that the “backup” label has been removed it’s time for Demon to put it all together and pick up where Meehan left off.  Which he is more than capable of.
