Very little is known about the Delta Devils from Mississippi Valley State.  They don’t have an online roster up yet, barely any reporting from fall camp, and have a new head coach.  Delta Devils could be synonymous with Sasquatch for all we know – not sure either exists, at least until Thursday.

Here is what we think we know as of today:

  • They have a new coach in Vincent Dancy.  Seamore Sports did a nice interview with him a few weeks ago, which gleaned some good info.  In particular:
    • What type of style does your team play?
      • “Offensively we play a high tempo ground and pound system with multiple formations. Defensively we are an even front team with multiple coverages in the secondary.”
  • The Devils operate with 53 scholarships.  The maximum allowed by FCS is 63.  So not terrible but not ideal, either.
  • They went 2-9 in 2017 and 1-10 in 2016.
  • Opponents compiled 56 sacks last season vs. the MVSU.
  • MVSU rushed for -103 yards over the course of 11 games in 2017.
  • We believe Chris Fowler (6’3-210) is going to be their starting QB.  In 2017 Fowler went 122-194 for 1,446 yards and 6 TD’s vs 6 INT’s.  But, nobody knows for sure until the Devils step on the field.  Including the UND staff.
  • We have been told they added a ton of new players so the roster turnover is huge.  Could be why they haven’t updated it yet.
  • The most overused trivia question ever:  What college did Jerry Rice attend?  You know the answer.

Want to know what offense they are going to be running based on what Dancy said above?  I would say start watching Fayetteville State (D2) highlights.  That is where their new offensive coordinator, Maurice Flowers, came from.

  Maurice Flowers  Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks

Flowers led the Broncos offense to a CIAA South division championship in his only year at FSU.  They appear to run a spread-based attack that prefers to run the ball vs pass.  So look for them to establish the run vs. UND as they work out the kinks in their new scheme.
