The recruiting world has been fairly quiet over the past month or so. The ‘early signing period’ has taken away a lot of the fanfare from the February ‘late signing day’.
However, Bubba Schweigert and Danny Freund found time to squeeze in one more commitment in quarterback Simon Romfo, who is slated to be a preferred walk-on this fall.
Signing Day is set for this Wednesday, Feb. 3rd. The Hawks are expected to sign only two players – Clayton Bishop and Romfo. You can see the list over at our 2021 Recruiting Class page.

Romfo, 5’10”-180, was a dual-threat star for the Langdon-Edmore-Munich Cardinals. L-E-M went 37-0 with Romfo at the controls, winning three straight Class A titles. A powerhouse dynasty, no doubt.
During this senior season, the aforementioned dual-threat star completed 159 of 232 passes for 2,448 yards and 33 touchdowns. On the ground, he ran the ball 110 times for 1,233 yards & 19 touchdowns.
On tape he reminds us of current UND QB Tommy Schuster. A bit undersized at 5’10” but quick, elusive and very decisive with the ball. Romfo shows good speed & vision in those designed QB runs. He worked out of the gun for L-E-M which prepared him well for a college offense. I could also see Romfo being a slot receiver type down the road.
His best attribute may be that he is a winner and is used to winning. Having kids like him in the locker room only helps a program.
Romfo will technically be the 7th QB on the roster come fall but the way things are these days that could very well change. Romfo also is a basketball and baseball standout for the Cardinals.
An interesting tidbit that just broke this morning: Simon’s twin brother, Grant, just committed to NDSU for football. How neat is that?
