In what is a bit of a unique recruiting season, UND will be holding their only recruiting weekend before the early signing day this coming Saturday & Sunday.

Thunder Lake Lodge

Typically, they would hold two weekends before the new early signing period but with the late Thanksgiving and making the playoffs it didn’t work out that way.

The Hawks are currently sitting at 22 commits in the Class of 2020.  The full list can be seen here.

This weekend the staff is expecting to host around 20 visitors.  The majority of the visitors will be current commits that have not already official visited.  We know that WR Marcus Preston and QB Reid Neal have already taken their official visit so they will not be on campus.

We have come across a few names as uncommitted visitors this weekend:

  • Quincy Vaughn – QB – Clarkson Football North – Burlington, ON
  • Jagger Ferden – OL – Margengo High School – Marengo, IL
  • Devon Krzanowski – LB – St. Cloud State

Krzanowski is obviously an interesting prospect.  He was a sophomore starting inside linebacker at St. Cloud State this past season – however as most know by now, SCSU just announced they are shutting down the program effective immediately.

In 2019, Krzanowski had 72 tackles, 9.5 TFL’s, and 4.5 sacks.  UND just offered him yesterday so we would assume they are pushing to get him signed next Wednesday.  Krzanowski shows a real burst on tape and would greatly help the UND inside linebacker group that graduated several key contributors.

Interesting note about SCSU: their staff has multiple ties to UND.  Head coach Scott Underwood coached linebackers at UND from 1997-2000.  OC Chris Mussman was UND’s OC from 2001-2007 and HC from 2008-2013.  DC Mark Sipple was a GA at UND from 1996-1998.

Vaughn would be the second QB in this class if they can get him to commit & sign next week.  He is currently committed to Old Dominion but they recently fired their staff so his recruiting picked back up again.  At 6’4″-230 he is a good sized kid who is a dual-threat and runs a similar spread system to OC Danny Freund’s.

Ferden was committed to Western Illinois earlier this year but obviously that has changed.  At 6’5″-250, he brings some nice size with him and shows good athleticism on tape.  UND needs to overhaul that position group so even though they have five commits already, they certainly would take Ferden to get more “tackle” bodies on the roster.

Early Signing Day is December 18th, 2019.
