In what wasn’t much of a surprise to us, UND Fighting Hawks Head Coach Bubba Schweigert has named Sam King as his new wide receiver coach.

King, 26, was formerly a graduate assistant at UND from 2015-2016 where he helped on the offensive side of the ball alongside new OC Danny Freund.

The past two seasons King was the running backs coach at Minnesota-Duluth.  He helped lead the Bulldogs to an 11-1 record and an NSIC title this past season.

King is expected to recruit the Northern Wisconsin area, at least initially.

What Sam King may lack in age/experience he makes up for with intelligence and work ethic. We have known Sam for several years and he is an impressive young man. King was a former QB for the Red River Roughriders and went on to play at collegiately at Bemidji State.

We both had the honor playing for Sam’s father, Darin, at Red River High School and remember how great of a coach he was to play for.  Darin King coached at UND himself under Roger Thomas and was a very smart, football-savvy type of coach.  We see alot of the same traits in his son, which is good for UND Football.

Sam King is married to wife Chelsea and they have an 8-month old girl, Landry.
