UND has received a commitment from LB Connor O’Brien of Lemont High School in Lemont, IL (southwest of Chicago).  O’Brien, 6’2-205, was an All-South Suburan and All-Area performer for the Indians (interesting nickname) and the anchor of their defense from his middle linebacker position.  The Indians ended the 2012 season with an 11-2 record, losing in the 6A State semi-finals 28-27 to eventual champion Crete-Monee.  Lemont is coached by Eric Michaelsen.

We see O’Brien playing either inside linebacker spot for UND in their 3-4 scheme.  In his senior season O’Brien had 130 total tackles (97 solo), 13 TFL’s, 6 sacks, 2 FF, and 3 recovered fumbles.  He also broke up 10 passes, which is outstanding for an ILB.

O’Brien shows good speed and excellent tackling ability on tape.  He has the aggressiveness that is needed at the ILB position.  A quote from Head Coach Eric Michaelsen:  “Connor is one of the best linebackers we have had. He’s our leading tackler and a 4.0 student.”  O’Brien had opportunities from from multiple Ivy League schools but did not choose to go that route.
