Now that the 2015-16 school year has finished up, this is the time we usually start to look at the roster to see where any holes are and what additions there might be to fill them.  Here is a rundown of what we have seen and heard about any FBS/Juco players that UND is looking at, along with roster thoughts.

  • UND has offered soph. WR Sergio Bailey of Grossmont Junior College in CA.  Bailey is a smaller, slot receiver type that UND is in need of with the loss of Josh Seibel (ACL).  Shortly after his visit to Grand Forks, Bailey  started to blow up and now has offers from Missouri State and Eastern Michigan.  Bailey has not yet decided where he will attend.
  • The twitter account Juco Football Frenzy does a nice job of getting junior college players publicity, no doubt.  But once they are discovered by a school, sometimes being very under the radar, the Frenzy site promotes the hell out of the offer/visit, meaning now the vultures start circling.  Kind of a tough deal for the school.
  • We have heard UND had an offensive line visitor from Western New Mexico.  Michael Coe, 6’3″-300, was a three year starter at left tackle for the Mustangs, which coincidentally (or not) is the same school that UND OL coach Luke Knauf coached at prior to coming to Grand Forks.  This past season he tore his pectoral muscle early on and missed most of the season.  Being he is a DII player, it leads us to believe he has now graduated and will start at UND this summer, eligible immediately.
  • Sources tell us there is a real possibility of UND getting an FBS transfer at cornerback, if things work out of course.  Stay tuned on that one.
  • If UND is able to land Coe, a transfer WR, and FBS transfer at cornerback, I would have to think they are about finished with roster moves until fall camp.  Those three positions are where they needed immediate help to bridge the gap to their incoming class.
  • We have heard freshman DL Kemuel Denny (Indianapolis, IN) will be leaving the team to go the Juco route.  Denny was buried on the depth chart at UND’s deepest position and will try to garner future D1 interest at a new location.
