Thoughts on the home game schedule and time associated with those games:

  • The home opener on Sept. 17th vs. long time rival South Dakota is set for 4pm.  Interesting time to set a game, IMO.  We remember some 6pm game times in the past, but not many 4pm times.  This is the annual Potato Bowl game.
  • 4pm will be good for post-game festivities.  People can go out and eat dinner at a fairly normal time.  Kids can participate in their youth activities in the morning and be done in time for the game.
  • This game should provide some good intrigue as well with Bubba Schweigert going against his former AD at UM-Duluth, Bob Nielson, who was just hired at South Dakota.
  • The rest of the games are set for 1pm.  This time slot is very typical of past UND game times and not a real surprise.
  • Three of the home games also coincide with a hockey game at night – Cal Poly, Oct. 1st, Southern Utah (Homecoming), Oct. 15, and Northern Arizona, Nov. 12th.  The 1pm slot makes sense for those weeks.
  • We would like to see at least one night game per year, perhaps a 6pm kickoff.  Reason being is night games always add a little intrigue as a “main event” type of feeling.  The USD game would be that opportunity but is set for 4pm instead.
  • There should be a huge crowd for that season opening game vs. the Yotes.
  • USD opened the 2009 home schedule at the Alerus Center and there was 12,431 people there, which is the largest Alerus crowd in the D1 era.
