It may seem like a coincidence but it never hurts to break exciting future schedule news during the height of recruiting season.

That is exactly what Bill Chaves did last week when he announced that UND is now taking on Boise State on September 16, 2023 at Albertson’s Field.  The Hawks were supposed to play Washington but it was switched to the Broncos, who now play Washington on September 2nd, 2023 in Seattle. A little switcheroo that benefits everybody.

The Hawks will still get their $637,500 guarantee, which is P5-level money, and would’ve been considerably less if they had just schedule Boise State from the start.

UND’s 2023 non-conference schedule now consists of home games vs. FCS foes Drake & Northern Arizona and then on the road at Boise State.  Definitely a nice mix of teams for a playoff resume.

The Hawks received commitment #4 to the Class of 2022 when Jett Sutton of Oak Park High School in Kansas City announced he wanted to be a Hawk.

Sutton, 5’11”-190, projects as a safety in college.  He is built like & plays like a physical, run-stopping safety that you can walk up into the box vs. certain sets. Sutton would also be an excellent guy to bring off the edge when added pressure is needed.

On tape it is obvious that Sutton is devastating tackler. He packs a pop at the point of impact and shows an impressive burst in the ball carrier.  The safety position at UND’s needs depth of all types and Sutton will be a nice strong safety to have in the group.

Another often ignored part of recruiting a guy like Sutton is his potential to be a special teams ace.  The speed and twitch he shows combined with his aggressive play would land him on multiple special teams for the Hawks.
