We knew there would be a change of scenery in the backfield come 2019.  We just didn’t know it would still be evolving two months before fall camp.

In a twitter post last night, running back Dalton Gee of Butte College announced his commitment to the Fighting Hawks for the 2019 season.

Gee, 6’0-200, ran for 901 yards and 11 TD’s in his two seasons out at Butte College (CA). He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

The Roadrunners finished the 2018 season with a 9-2 record and a NorCal conference championship.

We would describe Gee as a ‘power’ type of running back.  He shows quick cuts in the hole, excellent vision, and good speed in the open field. Not sure if he will break a lot of long runs but he has the speed to get into the second level for big gainers. He will be a nice change of pace guy from the current UND running backs.

As far as the current UND RB situation goes – expect sophomore Cam McKinney to get a feature role in OC Danny Freund’s new spread offense. McKinney will be the home run hitting, speed back while senior James Johannesson will be the inside zone running hammer.  Senior Austin Gordon, who recently moved back to RB, will provide depth along with the newly acquired Gee.

Those four should form a solid position group for RB coach Malcolm Agnew this coming season.
