Minnesota has historically been very good to UND as it’s a talent-rich state with no FCS schools (St. Thomas is transitioning).  That leads to a whole bunch of high-quality players that don’t get recruited by the Gophers but are right there talent-wise.

With the recent commitment of TE Haydn Stay of Princeton, MN, the Hawks now have three commitments to the Class of 2022 and all of them are from the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

Stay, 6’4″-225, is an all-around outstanding athlete. He is a star on the basketball court, recently being named the conference player of the year.  Stay is the #18 ranked football recruit in Minnesota per 247.

At UND’s flagship camp this summer Stay was a dominant force in 1-on-1 blocking drills. He was hard to miss and Stay’s showing made offering him a pretty easy choice for the Hawks staff.

I see Stay being a cross between a blocking TE and a WR.  He can do both effectively and should prove to be an nice weapon in Danny Freund’s spread offense. Princeton used Stay as both a wide receiver and a tight end so he has experience being flexed out wide.

An intriguing part of Stay’s future is his frame – he has a big frame that can fill out and get to 235-240 easily while not sacrificing any athleticism.  The potential is there.

Stay is the second offensive commitment in this class (Brett Kelzenberg).
