To say recruiting in the upper midwest is a battle would be an understatement.  There are six FCS schools in a four-state region and most all of them are among the best programs in the country.  Typically they all covet the same players.

The Hawks pulled of a major recruiting win against those FCS foes on Monday when Moorhead, MN product Jack Teiken verballed to UND.

Teiken reported offers from FBS schools Wyoming, Buffalo, CMU, Army, Air Force, along with FCS offers from Illinois State, NDSU, USD, and UNI.

Teiken is the ranked as the 16th best overall prospect in the state of Minnesota by 247 Sports and is the #2 defensive lineman.

At 6’3″-250, Teiken projects as a defensive end in UND’s 3-4 scheme and will bring a pass-rush ability that has been lacking at times from that position.  Teiken racked up seven sacks last season for the Spuds to go along with 9 TFL’s.

Teiken works well out of a 7-technique alignment using his explosive get-off to gain the angle and beat his blocker.  He has very quick change of direction ability once in the backfield.  He uses his hands well to separate or get an initial punch -it’s obvious he has been taught well by the Moorhead staff.  Teiken is the kind of guy UND will bring in and line up at the rush end spot in their 4-down dime packages.

Teiken also played tight end on offense for the Spuds. He is the second commitment to the Class of 2022.
