The UND offensive line has been in a transformation stage over the past two seasons.  Joe Pawlak arrived and immediately wanted to put his stamp on his unit and more importantly improve a stagnant rushing attack.

The improvement was quite noticeable this past spring and it’s only fitting the first commitment to the 2022 class comes from an offensive lineman, once again.

Brett Kelzenberg of Wayzata High School (MN) committed to the Hawks this past Friday, possibly opening the flood gates for a flurry of commits to take place over the next 30-40 days.

OL Sam Hagen of Park River, ND was the first commit in last years class.

Kelzenberg, 6’4″-260, projects as a guard in college but would certainly play the tackle position as well to create flexibility.  He was a full-time right guard for Trojans, who are a Minnesota 6A powerhouse, winning the 2019 state championship.

On tape he shows a nice punch at the point of impact and solid footwork to gain the angle on the defensive lineman. He will add athleticism and flexibility to the position group, which lost several key seniors after the spring season.  OL is a position group that always needs to keep recruiting & developing as injuries are quite common throughout a season.

Kelzenberg also throw shot put for the Trojans with a best throw of 48′-7″.

We look for the Hawks to gain several more commitments in the very near future.  Defensive line and tight end prospects are a couple of the areas we are keeping our eye on.
