Patrick Sharp, a running back from Wheaton North High School in Wheaton, IL, has given a verbal commitment to the UND football program.
At 5’10”-180, he was an all-conference performer for the Falcons, who went 10-2 on the season and lost in the Illinois Class 7A quarterfinals 3-0 to eventual champion Glenbard West. Wheaton North is coached by Joe Wardynski.
Sharp rushed for 715 yards and punched in 12 TD’s during the 2012 campaign. After watching the film, he appears to be a compact, power type of running back with pretty good speed. As we researched it further we found that Sharp runs a leg on the Falcons 4×100 relay team, which tells us he can move better than we thought he could after watching tape. He also consistently ran around the 11.00 range in the 100 meters, topping out at 10.91. We will be interested to see how he does this spring during track season.
After his junior season and into the beginning of his senior season, many MAC schools started to show interest in Sharp, although an offer was never made. Illinois recruiting guru Edgy Tim has him as a top 15 RB in the state of Illinois on his list for 2013.
He could end up adding a power-back dimension to the UND offense once he gets through his red-shirt season and puts on some more weight in Coach Nate Baukol’s strength training program and cause real problems for opposing defenses at 200-205 pounds with his speed.
Sharp is the 2nd running back in the 2013 class to commit, joining Rashadeem Gray from Whitefish Bay, WI.
