Minnesotapreps.com has confirmed that St. Cloud Tech offensive guard Ross Windfeldt gave UND a verbal commitment over the weekend.  The 6-5 315 pounder is the 4th addition to the 2011 offensive line class that already includes Red River’s Jace Hellman (6-3 250), Sartell’s Brandon Anderson (6-5 290) and Wilmot, WI Sean Meehan (6-6 290).

Rumors

We had a chance to talk with Tech Head Coach Gregg Martig who said Windfeldt has a great work ethic in the weight room and classroom and that his final choices came down to offers from UND and NDSU, with UM-Duluth and St. John’s also in the mix.  He said he thought Ross did a great job of not making a rushed decision and really looked at all aspects of the schools and the football programs to figure out the best fit for him.  Minnesota, Wisconsin (twice) and Nebraska were also in the school last spring to recruit him.  He ended up taking gameday unofficial visits to all 3 as well according to Martig, but no scholarship offers were ever made.

Ironically, Sartell’s Brandon Anderson and Windfeldt are good friends off the field even though they were rivals on it.  Both attended camps together at Minnesota and Wisconsin and were roommates.  Coach Martig said that may have played into his decision as well.

Windfeldt also throws shotput and discus in the spring during track season.  We think he projects as a guard at UND, however his size could lend itself to move outside to tackle if need be.

With all of the FBS schools that had visited and recruited Windfeldt, you have to believe the ceiling for this kid will be high at the FCS level.  While no offers were ever made and it was probably minimal, his rivals page of interested schools is impressive.
