UND doesn’t get a lot of commitments from the state of South Dakota. In fact, we believe the last commitment from the Mount Rushmore state came when OL Darren Deneui committed/signed with the Sioux in 2009 (note – Alex Wilde did join the team as a grad transfer last season).
The 10+ year drought ended on Friday when Sioux Falls Washington product Jaden Feterl gave his commitment to Bubba Schweigert. Feterl is the first defensive commitment to this class and the 6th overall.
Feterl, 6’3″-205, projects as either an inside or outside linebacker in UND’s 3-4 scheme. On tape he shows a whole lot of twitch, meaning his has a suddenness with quick reaction to the ball carrier. The Warriors liked to line him up at OLB and bring him off the edge, much like he would at UND if he ends up at that same position. At 6’3″ he has the length that is ideal for the linebacker position. His playing style reminds me of former UND safety-turned-linebacker Tanner Palmborg. Safety body but the ability to move up closer to the ball and use athleticism to make plays vs. bigger players.
Not to be outdone by his athletic prowess on the football and baseball fields, Feterl is also a 4.1 GPA student, which is obviously impressive and something that college coaches put alot of stock into when evaluating the full package.

The Hawks appear to be steadily putting together this recruiting class even without any camps or official visits due to COVID-19. Feterl was able to make it up to a junior day this past winter so that helped gain familiarity with the program. With all the commitments going down around the region we expect UND to pull a few more in the very near future. The summer recruiting season is always entertaining.
