The UND Fighting Sioux Football team has picked up 2 verbal commitments that we can confirm.

Rumors

Orono High School’s Weslee Kavanagh is a 6-1, 272 pound Long Lake, MN defensive linemen product.  Kavanagh has played some linebacker as well in high school, but projects as a defensive linemen in college.  The Star Tribune named him to the 2010 Preseason Dream Team 1st Team on defense.  He was also named Star Tribune 2nd Team All-Metro in 2009 as a junior and 3rd Team All-Metro in 2010 as a senior.  He was one of 24 kids to be named to the Chicage Nike All-Combine Team last spring as a junior in which over 900 kids from the midwest participated.  Here is what they had to say about Weslee:

“DL – Weslee Kavanagh – 6-1, 272, Orono (Long Lake, Minn.)
Results: 5.34 40, 4.85 shuttle, 40-5 PB, 26.0 VJ, 81.42 SPARQ
Breakdown: Stout interior lineman who can be hard to control with his strength and size.”

Also verbally committing to UND is Jace Hellman, who is a 6-3, 250 pound offensive linemen from Grand Forks Red River High School.  He was Class AAA 2nd Team All-State on the offensive line this past season for the Roughriders.  Hellman is probably considered to be a project with a lot of upside as he has great feet and also plays basketball for Red River.

Both Hellman and Kavanagh attended UND’s football camp last summer, so they obviously impressed the coaches in person to warrant the scholarship offers they received.

EDIT:  Trying to confirm 2 more verbals…
