Is UND (7-2) officially “in” the playoffs now that they beat Weber State and reached the 7 win plateau? The answer is simply, no.
If last season (2015) never happened we would be ecstatic right now. All happy and thinking UND did what the committee cherishes and reached 7 D1 wins, with quality wins over Cal Poly, South Dakota, and Weber State. Oh, and no bad losses.
Except for last season did happen, especially that Sunday morning FCS Selection Show. Not going to go into it, you all remember.
UND absolutely, unequivocally, and without a damn doubt NEEDS to beat Northern Colorado this week to have a shot at making the playoffs.
They cannot go into the last week of the season needing a win. Leave No Doubt.
8 wins paired with their resume, the OOC success of the Big Sky Conference, and their constant Top 20 ranking should get UND in. A wise man once said, “perception is reality”. This year UND has a positive perception.
At this point, we could not care less about winning the Big Sky, getting a Top 8 seed, blah, blah. That stuff takes care of itself. The mantra all year was ” Leave No Doubt”. Well, beating Northern Colorado leaves no doubt, IMO.
What can help UND this week? Weber State beating Northern Arizona (so NAU is out with 5 losses when they come to the Alerus Center-will also strengthen Weber’s record). Poly beating Eastern Washington (making UND the only unbeaten if they beat UNC and therefore, in first place alone – perception).
