The secret is out on freshman WR Greg Hardin:  He’s UND’s stud playmaker from the WR position and is the “go to” guy.

It won’t take long for defensive coordinators to figure that out when they watch the tape to prepare for UND each week.  It will be interesting to see what type of attention the Bellevue, Nebraska native receives from here on out from opposing defenses.  Will they “key” on him and attempt to make Landry and other WR’s make plays?  Or will they gamble and feel like they can play him straight up?

We are sure Coach Mussman and Coach Breitbach understand this as well and will probably find different ways to get him the ball to combat that.  They also will need the other guys in the WR group to step up and take the pressure off of Hardin.  Did we mention he’s only a freshman?

It will definitely help to have Jarrel Davis and Jon Heimler back next week on the field.  Both dressed on Saturday but weren’t needed on the field, so they got another week of rest.  I’m guessing both will practice in full this week and be ready to play against Northwestern St.  Also, was nice to see Marcus Hendrickson on the field too.  We feel he will definitely become more involved in the offense as well when he gets more familiar with the position and the offense from the WR spot and gains the trust of WR coach Tim Belmore.

Hardin has made lots of plays and because of it, he will now probably receive more attention.  Landry needs to understand that he may have to look elsewhere downfield and take advantage of it and spread the ball around underneath to get the others involved and make the UND offense more diverse.

We’ll see in the coming weeks if any of this comes to fruition.
