Per Dan Hammer – the play-by-play TV commentator for UND Football – Aeron Carr, a Rivals 2-star recruit from Mesa, AZ has verbally committed to the University of North Dakota to play football next season.
The 5’10” 165 pounder from Red Mountain High School had interest from many FCS schools and held offers from UC-Davis, Western Illinois, Northern Colorado, South Dakota & South Dakota State. He also received an offer to compete in the SEC in track & field at Ole Miss. A school record holder at his high school, his personal best long jump last year was 24′ – 1.5″. Carr finished 3rd at the Arizona state track meet as a junior.
Carr is listed as an “athlete” on many publications, but he projects best as a WR or cornerback, with WR being most likely. He finished his senior season with 59 receptions for 735 yards and 9 TDs. He also had 55 carries for 448 yards with 6 TDs at the running back spot. Red Mountain finished the season with a record of 9-3 in the highest class in Arizona under Head Coach Ron Wisniewski.
Carr shows exceptional top-end speed and a natural ability to change direction violently. He will definitely need to beef up his frame to take the pounding of FCS competition week in and week out. We see him being a Greg Hardin type of receiver for UND – big play threat with exceptional quickness and speed out of cuts. Carr adds significantly to what is turning out to be the best class UND has brought in since the move to FCS level football.
Aeron Carr is the 17th known verbal commitment in the 2013 recruiting class.
