Bismarck Century QB Carson Wentz made his verbal commitment to NDSU over the holiday break.  Even though UND didn’t land him, we don’t want to downplay the significance of him as a recruit as this is a great get for the bison and they won the battle on him fair and square.  With full-ride offers on the table from UND, NDSU, SDSU, Southern Illinois and Central Michigan, Wentz finally chose NDSU over UND in the end.  Having his brother already at NDSU was a significant factor.

He will join a crowded QB depth chart at NDSU with an already committed class of 2011 QB from Arizona, fellow Bismarck QB and 2010 signee Esley Thorton, and 2nd year freshman starter Brock Jensen.

Wentz is the QB that would have perfectly fit the pistol offense at UND.  He probably would have had the chance to be the North Dakota QB to lead UND into the Big Sky Conference.  The Sioux do also have 2 freshman QBs in Trey Demler and Chris Comes, but we feel Wentz could have been a serious contender to start at QB in 2012.  However, that’s just our amateur opinion.
