When reviewing the early 2021 signing class we had written that it was unusual to see UND not have a recruit from Wisconsin.  That all changed on Sunday.

Cornerback Clayton Bishop of Kenosha Indian Trail High School committed to the Hawks yesterday and upped the class total to 18.  Former UND OL Ben Jansen also hailed from Indian Trail.

Bishop is the 7th defender in this class and 2nd cornerback (Ocansey).  He will sign on February 3 during the late signing period.

Bishop, 6’0″-180, was a two-way & special teams standout for the Hawks.  He reminds us of current UND CB Sammy Fort – a bigger, physical corner that can really run.  Bishop has the size to move to safety but projects as a corner at UND.

On tape Bishop shows fluid hips and change of direction.  I mentioned his physicality – he likes to get into the receivers and disrupt their routes.  On offense he was used as a running back & wide receiver, which tells us they were doing what was needed to get the ball in his hands.

The cornerback group is already the strength of the UND defense and adding Bishop to that room makes it even stronger.  He reported other offers from SDSU, NDSU, Air Force, UNI, Western Illinois, and Bucknell.
